Singer Joe Jonas has responded to his former wife, actress Sophie Turner, who has accused him of kidnapping their children and denying them passports, during their acrimonious divorce. As the couple trades acrimonious accusations, their well-publicized breakup has taken an unexpected turn.

Earlier this month, Joe Jonas, 34, filed for divorce from Sophie Turner, 27. While Turner was away in England for a film project, he has been taking care of their two girls in the United States.

Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, stating that he was refusing to give their kids back to her or send them back abroad. She also claimed that she was taken by surprise when she discovered the divorce petition through the news.

But Jonas and his agent answered back quickly, refuting her assertions. A representative for Jonas claims that Sophie Turner had several conversations with her husband prior to the filing, and she was fully aware that a divorce was imminent. According to their representative, Florida was the proper jurisdiction to start the divorce process.

In addition, a Florida court order prohibiting the parents from moving the kids has already been issued. Turner’s claim that she was taken by surprise is refuted by reports that she received this order more than two weeks before the present event.

Although Joe Jonas admits that their girls are citizens of the United States, he has indicated that he would be open to having them relocated abroad in the event that Sophie Turner chooses to live permanently in the United Kingdom. In order for both parents to raise their children in the US or the UK, he is seeking joint parenting arrangements.

At a recent meeting in New York, the couple reportedly talked about attempting to come to a cooperative co-parenting agreement. But less than a day later, Turner surprised Jonas by expressing her wish to move the kids permanently to the UK.

Turner claimed that Joe Jonas was keeping their girls’ passports hostage, but Joe Jonas’s representative brushed down her claims, pointing out that complying with her request would be against the Florida court order.

Speaking to the most severe charge of kidnapping, a representative for Jonas voiced dissatisfaction with Turner’s use of words, calling it at best deceptive and at worst potentially abusing the legal system. They stressed that the kids had been under Joe’s care for the previous three months on mutual consent and that they had not been kidnapped.

Joe Jonas is optimistic that he and Sophie Turner can work things out in a more amicable and private way despite their ongoing court battles.
