A Washington granddad is being hailed as a hero after a terrifying run-in with a drunken DoorDash driver who allegedly showed up at his front door demanding a tip — with a gun in his waistband.

Anthony Volino was enjoying a quiet breakfast with his grandkids in Vancouver when the chaos erupted. According to Volino, the driver from the night before came back pounding on the door and claimed his daughter still owed him a tip for her grocery delivery.

“He reeked of alcohol,” Volino told local outlet KGW. “At first I thought about just giving him a couple of bucks to make him leave. But when he said, ‘I want my tip,’ again, I knew something was wrong. I told him, ‘You need to leave.’”

But the man refused to back down — and that’s when things turned physical. As the two scuffled, Volino said he felt cold steel tucked into the man’s waistband.

“My heart just sank,” he told KPTV. “The only thing on my mind was, ‘I have to get this gun away from him.’ It felt like it was either me or him.”

A dramatic doorbell video shows Volino wrestling the gun away from the driver, pushing him back toward a car, and then calmly removing the bullets from the weapon.

Both men ended up calling 911. The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Robert Delehant, was arrested on multiple charges including felony harassment, assault, and DUI. Miraculously, no one was hurt in the confrontation.

“I could have been shot. My kids could have been shot,” Volino said. “If he had managed to grab that gun, it could’ve ended very differently.”

Volino’s daughter later confirmed she had already tipped the driver through the DoorDash app, but Delehant reportedly insisted on getting extra cash in person.

“He doesn’t get to just decide to show up at someone’s house demanding money,” Volino said.

DoorDash confirmed that Delehant was one of their drivers and stated he has since been permanently banned from the platform.

“What happened was unacceptable and the Dasher involved was immediately deactivated,” a spokesperson said. “We have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of behavior.”Tools
