A quiet Pennsylvania neighborhood was rocked by a terrifying scene that could have ended in tragedy.

Police say a young boy — believed to be around 7 or 8 years old — was spotted climbing out of a window and onto the roof of his family’s home in Blairsville… during dangerously high winds.

And what he allegedly did next has people shaken.

According to authorities, the child was seen trying to grab onto nearby power lines while standing on a roof roughly 20 feet above the ground.

A neighbor, horrified by what they were witnessing, immediately called 911 — and even recorded video of the moment.

By the time officers arrived, the boy had made it back inside. Miraculously, no one was hurt.

But the situation could have turned deadly in seconds.

Police say the child’s mother, 38-year-old Amanda Rivera, was not home at the time of the incident.

Instead, she told officers she had been out “running errands” and spending time at a new house as the family prepared to move.

Inside the home were two children — ages 15 and 8 — left without supervision, according to reports.

Rivera was arrested on March 15 and later charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children. She is now awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 15.

Neighbors are still trying to process what they saw.

“I feel for the mother,” local resident Anna Zadecky said. “I’m sure she was trying her best… but when you have children, you’re responsible.”

She added a warning many parents are now echoing:

“One little thing can happen so fast — and it changes everything.”

While this child escaped unharmed, the incident is raising serious concerns about supervision — especially in moments of chaos like moving homes or juggling responsibilities.

Because as this near-miss shows, it only takes a few minutes for a dangerous situation to unfold.

And this time… it was caught just in time.

  1. Ah, folks, that 15-year-old is old enough to be supervising a younger sibling ! I remember when kids as young as 12 were HIRED by neighbors to babysit youngsters !
Has the system become so “child-endangerment” paranoid that teenagers can’t be trusted anymore ?
Charging the mother in this case is (if I don’t get censored) total BULLSHIT !
Maybe time to take away cell-phones from those UNDER 21 ?
