Wyndham Clark’s first major championship celebration ended with an unexpected medical scare.

The golf star, who won the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, revealed that he had to go to the hospital the day after his huge victory because he vomited so violently that he tore part of his stomach lining.

Clark shared the wild story during Monday’s episode of Dan on Golf, explaining that the frightening health scare happened shortly after one of the biggest moments of his career.

After holding off Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler to win the U.S. Open, Clark celebrated late into the night with about 40 to 50 family members and friends. The group marked the major championship win with plenty of adult beverages before Clark had to wake up the next morning for a press tour in New York.

That is when things took a painful turn.

Clark said he made the mistake of ordering “lox and bagels” for breakfast the next morning.

“I order, a dumb order, of lox and bagels in the morning,” Clark said.

He quickly realized it was a bad idea.

“I eat the lox and bagels. We get in the car, and I have to pull over, and I am throwing up so much,” he recalled.

The vomiting became so severe that Clark said he tore the lining of his stomach.

“And then I tear the lining in my stomach,” he said. “And I actually had to go to the hospital.”

Clark said he spent about two or three hours dealing with the medical issue before he was eventually released and able to continue on to New York.

“I was a little embarrassed, but you know what, it’s a true story,” he admitted.

The frightening episode came right after the biggest win of Clark’s career. In 2023, he captured the U.S. Open title after outlasting some of golf’s biggest names on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Clark has continued to play strong golf since that breakthrough moment. He won this year’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson and finished solo third at last weekend’s Memorial Tournament.

He is now set to tee off at the RBC Canadian Open before heading to Long Island for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
