Highlander star Christopher Lambert was rushed to a hospital by ambulance after suddenly collapsing while meeting fans at a Pennsylvania convention on Saturday.
The 69-year-old French-American actor was appearing at Steel City Con in the Pittsburgh area when the frightening medical emergency unfolded. Lambert had been signing autographs and taking photos with fans shortly before he collapsed on the convention floor.
Convention organizers quickly announced that Lambert had been forced to leave the event because of what they initially described as a “personal issue.” His scheduled Saturday photo opportunity was canceled while fans waited for news about his condition.
Lambert was taken away by ambulance and evaluated at a hospital.
Fortunately, his representatives later delivered reassuring news, saying the actor was “perfectly OK” and had returned to his hotel to rest.
According to his representative, the collapse was believed to have been caused by a combination of exhaustion and dangerously low blood sugar.
Lambert reportedly had gotten very little sleep the night before and had barely eaten since arriving in Pittsburgh. His lack of food caused his blood sugar to drop, which his team said ultimately triggered the collapse.
The scare initially raised questions about whether Lambert would be able to return for the final day of Steel City Con.
Organizers have since announced that he is expected back at the convention Sunday and is scheduled to arrive at approximately 11:30 a.m., a strong indication that his condition improved quickly after the hospital visit.
Fans reacted with relief after learning the actor was recovering, with several saying online that witnessing the medical emergency had been frightening.
The incident is not Lambert’s first recent health-related setback.
In 2025, he was recovering from a back injury after tripping and falling on stairs while entering a hotel. His representative said at the time that Lambert did not break his back, but the injury forced him to cancel an appearance at Sweden’s SciFiWorld festival.
Lambert remains best known for playing immortal Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod in the 1986 cult classic Highlander, starring alongside Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. The movie went on to inspire sequels and a television series.
He also played Tarzan in the 1984 film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes and later appeared as Raiden in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie.
Despite Saturday’s alarming collapse, Lambert’s team says he is recovering, resting and apparently well enough to return to meet fans Sunday. He is also expected to appear at FAN EXPO Chicago the following week.
