Breaking Amish alum Jeremiah Raber is sharing a frightening health update after being hospitalized and airlifted for emergency treatment.
In a TikTok post shared on Dec. 30, Raber, 45, revealed he was “waiting to be life flighted to another hospital,” posting a selfie from a hospital bed. He told followers his blood sugar level had skyrocketed to 993 — an extremely dangerous number — and said doctors were also concerned about possible liver failure.
For context, normal fasting blood sugar levels for non-diabetics are typically around 100, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The following day, Raber posted another TikTok showing him being loaded onto a helicopter on a stretcher, along with an additional selfie video from his hospital bed, reassuring fans he was hanging in there.
By Jan. 2, Raber shared more hopeful news, thanking followers for their prayers and writing, “I’m doing good and will be out tomorrow!”
This isn’t the first time the reality TV star has been open about serious health issues. In April 2024, Raber revealed he had been hospitalized for two days due to heart problems and diabetic ketoacidosis, according to InTouch Weekly.
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin, causing it to break down fat for fuel. This process leads to a buildup of acids called ketones in the blood, which can become deadly if not treated, the Mayo Clinic explains.
Raber rose to fame as one of the most rebellious cast members on Breaking Amish, which premiered in 2012 and followed young Amish and Mennonite adults as they left their insular communities to experience the modern world. He later returned for multiple seasons of Return to Amish.
At 32, Raber was the oldest cast member during the show’s first season and became known for being outspoken about his struggles — including ongoing financial hardship. In a March 2024 TikTok video, he thanked fans who donated money to help him afford medical care.
“Hopefully soon I’ll be at the doctor’s and getting it checked out,” he said at the time. “I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.”
Raber’s personal life has also been turbulent. He married Carmela Raber in 2016, but she filed a restraining order against him in April 2022, according to E! News and InTouch. Raber later confirmed on Instagram that the two were no longer together.
The former reality star has previously shared that he’s been living out of a camper van while traveling around the U.S. He has three children from a previous marriage.
