The son of late Mango founder Isak Andic has been arrested in Spain as investigators take a fresh look at the fashion billionaire’s shocking death.
Jonathan Andic, 45, was detained Tuesday in Barcelona for questioning in connection with his father’s fatal 2024 cliff plunge, according to local police.
Isak Andic, the billionaire behind the global fashion chain Mango, died in December 2024 after falling more than 320 feet while hiking in the Montserrat caves near Barcelona with his son.
At first, authorities described the 71-year-old tycoon’s death as a tragic accident.
Now, the case has taken a stunning turn.
Jonathan, who inherited control of the fashion empire alongside his sisters after his father’s death, was reportedly brought in as part of a possible homicide investigation.
A spokesperson for the family confirmed Jonathan was being questioned by investigators but did not provide additional details.
The dramatic development comes nearly a year after Spanish media began reporting that police were examining possible inconsistencies in Jonathan’s account of what happened on the trail.
Jonathan was the only witness to his father’s fatal fall.
He allegedly told investigators he had been walking slightly ahead of his father on the narrow Les Feixades trail when he heard stones falling. He said he turned around and saw his father suddenly tumble over the edge.
But police sources reportedly told local outlets that parts of Jonathan’s story may not have matched the forensic evidence gathered after the fall.
The trail where Isak died was described by authorities as a route often used by families and not considered especially dangerous.
That detail has only deepened public interest in the billionaire’s mysterious death.
The Andic family has maintained confidence in Jonathan’s innocence.
Isak Andic founded Mango in 1984 and built it into one of Spain’s most recognizable fashion brands. At the time of his death, he was worth an estimated $4.5 billion, making him one of the country’s wealthiest men.
After his death, Jonathan and his two sisters took over the family business.
