Simone Biles is opening up about a frightening health scare that left her resting in bed and shaken by what she called one of the scariest experiences of her life.
On Saturday, June 6, the 29-year-old Olympic gymnastics superstar shared a photo on Instagram Stories showing her arm covered in hospital patient wristbands. In the post, Biles told fans she had been “in bed resting this week” after a medical emergency she was not ready to fully explain yet.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
She continued, “This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”
Biles was referring to her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, whom she married in April 2023. Owens signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts in March 2026, and Biles previously said she was excited to call Indianapolis home during the upcoming football season.
The gymnastics icon did not reveal the exact cause of the health scare, but she made it clear that the ordeal was serious.
“I’ve been in bed resting this week,” she wrote. “I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers. Loooovveeee y’all.”
Biles followed the post with photos of flower bouquets sitting in glass vases on a counter, showing the support she has received while recovering.
Another photo showed her lying in bed with her two dogs beside her. She also shared a screenshot of her resting heart rate and wrote, “I’ll be here.”
The update came just two days after Biles gave her 11 million Instagram followers a glimpse inside her custom-built Texas mansion, including her bedroom and outdoor kitchen. At the time, she appeared to hint that she was following medical advice and taking it easy.
“Breakfast in bed. Just what the doctor ordered,” she wrote over a photo of herself holding a plate of eggs, toast and sausage while resting in bed.
Just one day before that, Biles had posted a rare video showing off her famous gymnastics skills during a break from competition. In the clip, she performed flips on a large in-ground trampoline while wearing a red bikini and spending time with fellow gymnast Zoe Miller.
“Summer nights playing stick it,” Biles captioned the video.
Now, fans are focused on her recovery after the shocking hospital update.
Biles has not yet shared more details about what happened, but her message made it clear that the scare left a major impact. For now, the most decorated gymnast in history says she is resting, surrounded by support, and taking time to heal.
