A soccer match in Ecuador turned into pure chaos after a medical cart accidentally ran over a player during a stoppage in play.
No, this was not a comedy sketch. It happened during a recent LigaPro match between El Nacional and Liga de Portoviejo at Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda Stadium in Quito.
Liga de Portoviejo was leading 1-0 when the game stopped in the 71st minute for a medical timeout. One Liga de Portoviejo player was already being treated for an injury and placed on the back of a golf cart-style medical vehicle.
Then things somehow got even more bizarre.
As the cart began moving across the field, the driver apparently failed to notice El Nacional player Edison Caicedo standing nearby and talking to someone. Caicedo also did not appear to see the cart coming.
Seconds later, the medical cart rolled right into him.

Video of the incident, which went viral over the weekend, shows Caicedo getting struck and immediately dropping to the grass in pain. The impact appeared to catch him in the shin before he fell and hit his head.
The announcers sounded stunned as the replay showed exactly what happened. On the field, staff members appeared furious with the cart driver, with several people confronting him after the accident.
Things got tense enough that the referee had to step in and try to calm everyone down.
Meanwhile, Caicedo remained on the field in visible pain as replays showed the bizarre collision in slow motion. The announcers could be heard reacting in disbelief, letting out an audible “Oh!” as the impact was shown again.
The clip quickly spread online, with fans stunned that a medical cart sent onto the field to help an injured player ended up creating another injury scare.
It was one of those moments that looked almost too ridiculous to be real, but for Caicedo, there was nothing funny about getting blindsided by a cart in the middle of a professional soccer match.
The frightening and absurd scene gave fans one of the strangest viral sports moments of the season: a player being taken down not by an opponent, but by the medical cart itself.

Looks more like he walked into the cart.
