Johnny Depp has reportedly traded the chaos of Hollywood for the quiet life inside his sprawling 44-room castle — and insiders say the famously private star is becoming harder than ever to lure back into the spotlight.
The 62-year-old actor and musician has been spending more time away from public view, according to a new report, with sources claiming even his Hollywood Vampires bandmates have joked that a new album may depend on Depp being willing to leave his secluded retreat.
The hard rock supergroup, made up of Depp, Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, has not released a record since 2019’s Rise. But Cooper recently suggested that another album is still likely — once everyone’s schedule lines up.
The biggest obstacle, he joked, may be Depp himself.
“I can’t imagine there not being one,” Cooper said when asked about another Hollywood Vampires record. “But we all have pretty demanding day jobs. And you want to try getting Johnny out of his 44-room castle.”
According to RadarOnline.com, a source close to the band claimed Depp has increasingly settled into a quieter, more private lifestyle far from Hollywood’s glare.
“Johnny has become something of a Howard Hughes-style recluse in recent years,” the insider claimed. “He enjoys the privacy of his castle, and when he disappears there, he is perfectly happy staying out of the spotlight. The band knows he’ll come back when the music calls, but nobody tries to rush him.”
Despite the reclusive reputation, Depp’s bandmates insist his passion for music has not faded.
Perry said Depp remains serious about the group, even if some people around the actor would rather see him focus on other projects.
“I can tell you that some people in his camp are not happy he’s taking a couple of months out to play music,” Perry said. “But when it’s time for Johnny to play guitar, he knows it’s time.”
Another insider echoed that point, saying Depp’s commitment is not the issue.
“When Johnny agrees to make music, he gives it everything,” the source said. “The challenge isn’t persuading him to care about the band — it’s simply getting everyone’s calendars to match up and convincing him to leave the peace and quiet he’s created for himself.”
The speculation comes as Hollywood Vampires prepare for their upcoming UK and European tour, including dates in London, Cardiff, Scarborough, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Colchester and Halifax.
Cooper said one of the hardest parts of preparing for the tour is choosing the setlist. The band not only performs original material, but also pays tribute to rock legends who inspired them, including The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and the Small Faces.
“The thing is, I love playing songs by The Doors, Jimi or the Small Faces, and we worked hard to really nail them as a good tribute to the bands concerned,” Cooper said. “And yeah, we have two albums of original songs, and songs of our own. How many albums have Aerosmith made? I’m on my thirtieth. Setlists are always the hardest part of any show.”
Perry said guitarist Tommy Henriksen helps organize the process by drafting proposed setlists and circulating them to the band for feedback.
“Tommy really helps,” Perry said. “He writes a list, sends it around, and we all make suggestions.”
Depp’s quieter lifestyle comes as he continues to rebuild his career after years of high-profile legal battles that pushed him away from major studio productions.
The actor returned to directing with Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness and has also resumed acting in new projects, signaling what many in the industry view as a gradual comeback.
While Depp may be keeping his distance from Hollywood’s daily circus, insiders believe interest in him remains strong — both from audiences and from studios increasingly willing to work with him again.
