TikTok creator Rebecca Luna, a 49-year-old single mother from British Columbia, has died after publicly sharing her devastating battle with early onset dementia.
Luna passed away Saturday afternoon after choosing medically assisted death, known in Canada as Medical Assistance in Dying, or MAID. According to a notice posted to her TikTok account, she died at approximately 1:15 p.m. on July 25 while surrounded by loved ones.
“Rebecca passed away July 25th at approximately 1:15 p.m. surrounded by her loved ones. Thank you for your support and privacy,” the message read.
Luna had built a following on TikTok by documenting her diagnosis with early onset Alzheimer’s disease, a rare and heartbreaking form of dementia that struck while she was still in her 40s. She revealed in 2025 that she had been diagnosed at just 48 years old, then began sharing candid updates about her symptoms, doctor appointments, treatment options and the agonizing decisions she faced as the disease progressed.
For Luna, the videos became both a personal record and a way to educate others about a condition often associated with old age but capable of changing lives decades earlier. Followers watched as she spoke openly about memory loss, fear, grief and the reality of planning for a future she knew would become increasingly difficult.
Alzheimer’s disease is especially painful for families because it gradually strips away memory, independence and recognition. Loved ones often endure the grief of watching someone physically remain present while slowly losing pieces of the life and relationships that once defined them.
In the days before her death, Luna told her followers she had decided to move up her MAID date from early August to July 25. She explained that the choice was about maintaining control over her life and her final days before the disease advanced further.
Her final updates were met with an outpouring of emotional support from viewers who had followed her journey and praised her for bringing honesty, dignity and awareness to one of the most difficult diagnoses a person can face.
Luna’s story has left many of her followers grieving, while also sparking renewed conversation about early onset dementia, end-of-life choices and the emotional toll Alzheimer’s takes on patients and their families.
