Former Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings’ cause of death has been officially confirmed, weeks after the beloved All That actress died at just 46 years old.
Knowings died on August 11 after suffering a devastating asthma attack that reportedly left her with severe brain damage.
A family member said shortly after her death that Knowings had been taken off life support following the medical emergency.
Now, her death certificate has revealed more details about what happened.
According to People, the document lists cardiac arrest as Knowings’ immediate cause of death. She died four days after being hospitalized.
Acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus were listed as conditions that led to her death, while asthma was identified as the underlying cause.
Status asthmaticus refers to an especially severe asthma attack that does not respond to typical treatment, while hypoxic respiratory failure occurs when the body is unable to get enough oxygen.
Knowings was best known for joining Nickelodeon’s hit sketch comedy series All That in 1997.
The popular children’s series became a launching pad for several future stars, including Nick Cannon, Jamie Lynn Spears and Amanda Bynes.
Knowings’ acting credits also included an appearance in Rosie O’Donnell’s Nickelodeon sketch-comedy special And Now This, as well as work on Sesame Street.
Her death marked another heartbreaking loss for the All That family this year.
Former cast member Kianna Underwood, 33, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn in January.
Following Knowings’ death, a GoFundMe campaign was launched on behalf of her parents to help cover her mortuary and funeral expenses.
The fundraiser initially set a goal of $10,000 but has since raised more than $12,000.
Those behind the campaign remembered Knowings as “a compassionate, bright light whose warmth, kindness, and humor touched every life she encountered.”
Knowings was just 46 when she died, leaving fans of the beloved Nickelodeon series mourning another familiar face from the show’s early years.
