Man Rushed to Hospital While Mowing Lawn, So Firefighters Finish the Job (Video)

A group of Oklahoma City firefighters went beyond the call of duty after a man became sick while mowing his lawn.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department said crews recently responded to a medical emergency involving a man who fell ill while working in his yard.

Firefighters treated him at the scene and made sure he was safely placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital.

But before leaving, the crew noticed the job he had been forced to abandon.

His lawn was only half mowed.

Instead of walking away, the firefighters decided to finish it for him.

“We couldn’t leave it that way, so we finished the job,” the department wrote in a Facebook post shared Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Photos showed firefighters pushing the lawn mower and completing the yard work while the homeowner was on his way to the hospital.

“Service does not always stop when the emergency is over,” the department added.

The simple gesture quickly drew praise from people in the community.

One commenter said their own neighbor is an Oklahoma City firefighter and called the department a great group of people.

“Our city is lucky to have them!” the person wrote.

Another commenter said they recognized the home and believed the man had once been their neighbor before they moved out of state.

The person said they had often wondered how he was doing and noted that yard work had been difficult for him for a long time.

Others praised the firefighters for doing something they were not required to do once the medical emergency was over.

“Hats off to you all that was so sweet of you!” one commenter wrote. “The world needs more people like you all in it.”

For the Oklahoma City Fire Department, finishing the lawn was simply another way to help someone in need.

“It was a simple act of kindness,” the department wrote, “and a reminder that caring for our community goes beyond the call.”
