The Beach Boys have canceled another highly anticipated comeback concert as uncertainty continues to surround the legendary group’s touring schedule.

The band was scheduled to return to the stage Friday, Oct. 9, at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois.

But the venue announced Tuesday that the performance had been canceled because of “unforeseen circumstances.”

No additional explanation was provided.

The latest cancellation comes after months of disruptions to the Beach Boys’ touring schedule and follows the postponement or cancellation of dozens of concerts.

The Bloomington performance had itself already been rescheduled. The group was originally supposed to perform there on Aug. 13 before moving the concert to October.

The Beach Boys’ last public performance took place July 18 in Valdosta, Georgia.

Shortly afterward, the band postponed nearly 30 concerts on its America’s Band Tour so 85-year-old founding member and lead vocalist Mike Love could take time away from the road.

Love told fans at the time that the group had been enjoying the tour but needed a short break so he could “recharge” before returning to performances.

That announcement followed another round of postponed concerts the previous month while Love dealt with an unspecified illness.

The repeated schedule changes have raised questions among fans about when the group will fully return to touring.

Adding to the uncertainty, the Beach Boys did perform at a private event in California this week.

Videos from that appearance showed Love performing while seated, suggesting the singer remains involved with the group despite the disruption to its public concert schedule.

Love has not publicly announced a specific medical condition connected to the latest cancellation, and the Bloomington venue did not say whether his health played any role in the decision.

The current touring version of the Beach Boys is led by Love alongside longtime member Bruce Johnston and a supporting lineup of musicians.

Love is the only original Beach Boys member who continues to regularly tour with the group.

The legendary band was formed in California in the early 1960s and became one of the most influential American pop groups of all time with songs including “Good Vibrations,” “California Girls,” “I Get Around,” “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”

The group has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Despite the latest cancellation, two major performances remain on the calendar.

The Beach Boys are still scheduled to perform at PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by a concert at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Both venues continued to list the concerts as scheduled as of Wednesday.

The Nashville appearance had previously been rescheduled and is currently set for 7:30 p.m.

For fans who planned to attend the canceled Bloomington show, officials said customers who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster or the arena box office would receive information about refunds. Ticketmaster refunds are expected to be processed automatically.

For now, the Beach Boys have not announced another replacement date for Bloomington or explained exactly what prompted the latest cancellation.

With two additional concerts scheduled within days of the canceled Illinois appearance, attention will now turn to whether the legendary group returns to the public stage in Cincinnati this weekend.
