Justin Timberlake may still be a major name in music, but his Hollywood ambitions are reportedly facing serious challenges as past controversies continue to cast a shadow over his career.
The 45-year-old singer and actor is reportedly eager to make a comeback on the big screen, but entertainment insiders claim acting opportunities have become harder to secure in recent years.
According to RadarOnline, Timberlake is concerned that his once-polished public image has suffered lasting damage following several high-profile controversies, including his 2024 impaired-driving case and renewed scrutiny of his past relationship with Britney Spears.
“There’s no getting around the fact that Hollywood just isn’t calling as much anymore,” an unnamed source told the outlet.
While Timberlake continues to benefit from a successful music career and decades of hit songs, the insider suggested his acting future is considerably less certain.
The former NSYNC frontman previously enjoyed a promising transition into Hollywood, earning praise for appearances in films including “The Social Network,” “Friends with Benefits” and “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
He also became a familiar voice to younger audiences through the animated “Trolls” franchise.
However, his most recent major acting projects came in 2023, when he portrayed a murder suspect in the Netflix thriller “Reptile” and reprised his role as Branch in “Trolls Band Together.”
Although he appeared as himself in the 2024 animated documentary “Piece by Piece,” Timberlake has not announced another major live-action movie role.
His reported career concerns come after several years of unwanted headlines.
In 2019, Timberlake faced public criticism after photographs showed him holding hands with actress Alisha Wainwright during a night out in New Orleans. The two were filming the drama “Palmer” at the time.
Timberlake later apologized publicly, calling the incident a lapse in judgment and insisting that nothing happened between him and Wainwright.
The controversy also brought unwanted attention to his marriage to actress Jessica Biel, whom he married in 2012.
Further scrutiny followed in 2023 when his former girlfriend, Britney Spears, released her bestselling memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
The book revisited their highly publicized relationship and breakup, including Spears’ account of painful experiences during their time together.
Then, in June 2024, Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
He initially denied the misdemeanor DWI charge but ultimately pleaded guilty that September to the lesser, noncriminal offense of driving while impaired.
The agreement required him to pay a $500 fine, complete 25 hours of community service and participate in a public safety announcement about impaired driving. His driving privileges were also suspended for 90 days.
Timberlake acknowledged his mistake outside the courthouse, urging others not to drive after drinking.
The incident generated another round of negative publicity, although there is no confirmed evidence that it directly cost him acting roles.
Nevertheless, RadarOnline’s source claims Timberlake worries that the accumulated controversies could permanently affect his reputation in the entertainment industry.
The insider also suggested that Biel, 44, has limited patience for his reported frustrations about Hollywood.
However, those claims remain unverified, and the couple’s recent public appearances present a more positive picture of their relationship.
On October 17, Timberlake and Biel attended the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles together, making a rare joint red-carpet appearance shortly after celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary.
Biel has also publicly shared glimpses of Timberlake supporting her career. Earlier this month, she posted footage of her training for the Apple TV film “Matchbox: The Movie,” with her husband and their two sons, Silas, 11, and Phineas, 6, joining in the family moments.
Neither Timberlake nor Biel has publicly confirmed the reported marital tensions.
As for his acting ambitions, an insider suggested the singer may need to take an unexpected role to regain Hollywood’s attention rather than rely on his established celebrity status.
The source believes Timberlake could benefit from working with younger filmmakers and accepting projects that challenge audiences’ expectations.
For now, his music career remains his most established professional strength.
Timberlake released his sixth studio album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” in 2024 and supported it with his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which continued into 2025.
Whether he can generate similar momentum in Hollywood remains an open question.
Despite the insider’s claims, no studio executives or casting directors have publicly confirmed that Timberlake is being avoided because of his past controversies.
