Sahara Ray, the Australian model and swimwear designer who gained international attention for her rumored romance with Justin Bieber, has died at just 34 years old, only months after welcoming her first child.

Ray died Sunday, October 18, at a hospital surrounded by loved ones, her family confirmed to TMZ the following day.

“She passed away last night surrounded by family at the hospital,” her family said in a statement. “She was so loved.”

Her cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

The news has shocked fans and fellow models, particularly because Ray had recently entered a new chapter of her life after becoming a mother to a daughter named Snow in January 2026.

The little girl was the focus of some of Ray’s final social media updates, including a touching Instagram post in July featuring several photographs of her daughter.

“My whole heart 🤍 baby Snow,” she wrote alongside the pictures.

The heartbreaking post has taken on new significance following her death, with fans remembering the happiness Ray expressed about motherhood.

Born in Australia, Ray was the daughter of professional surfer Tony Ray and spent much of her childhood traveling between Australia, California and Hawaii.

Growing up around beaches and surfing culture helped inspire her interest in swimwear, eventually leading her to launch her own fashion brand, Sahara Ray Swim, in 2014.

She built a large following on Instagram, where she shared modeling photographs, fashion projects, travel experiences and glimpses of her personal life.

Her public profile grew considerably in 2016 when she was photographed vacationing in Hawaii with Justin Bieber, sparking widespread speculation about a romance between the two.

She had also previously been romantically linked to Australian singer Cody Simpson.

Although her celebrity connections attracted considerable media attention, Ray continued building her own career as a model, designer and social media personality.

In recent years, however, she also faced a serious personal health challenge.

In 2024, Ray revealed that she had developed Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, a rare neurological condition in which the body’s immune system attacks peripheral nerves.

The diagnosis followed a serious car accident in April of that year. Ray said she had been struck by a vehicle and subsequently developed an infection while recovering.

She later described experiencing significant weakness and loss of movement in her legs, leaving her dependent on a wheelchair and walker.

In an emotional social media update, Ray explained that she was unable to walk and did not know whether she would fully regain her mobility.

Guillain-Barré syndrome can cause muscle weakness, numbness and, in severe cases, paralysis. Although many patients recover, some experience lasting nerve damage and other complications.

Ray documented portions of her recovery online, allowing followers to see the challenges she was experiencing away from the glamorous images associated with her modeling career.

She appeared to regain some mobility in the months that followed and later shared the happier news that she was expecting her first child.

In January 2026, Ray welcomed Snow, a milestone that became one of the most meaningful parts of her social media presence.

She posted updates about her pregnancy and motherhood, sharing photographs and videos celebrating her new life with her daughter.

While Ray had publicly discussed her previous neurological illness, neither her family nor medical representatives have indicated that Guillain-Barré syndrome contributed to her death. Any connection between the condition and her passing remains unconfirmed.

As news of her death spread, friends and fellow models began sharing emotional tributes.

Model Becky Hearn posted photographs of herself with Ray and remembered her friend with a loving message.

“Will always love you my sweet soul,” she wrote.

Fellow model and influencer Sabrina Zada also expressed her heartbreak, remembering Ray as someone whose presence had made a lasting impression.

Ray’s younger sister, Ruby, shared an especially emotional tribute, describing her as a vibrant, intelligent, funny and compassionate woman whose personality could brighten any room.

Ruby remembered looking up to her older sister throughout her life and struggling to imagine the world without her.

For longtime followers, Ray’s death is particularly heartbreaking because she had overcome significant health challenges and appeared excited about raising her daughter.

Her career brought her recognition in fashion and entertainment, but her final months were increasingly centered on her role as a mother.

Ray leaves behind her infant daughter Snow, her father Tony Ray, her sister Ruby and other loved ones.
