Florida State University freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is fighting for his life after being shot while visiting family in Havana, Florida, on Sunday night, Aug. 31.
According to a statement from the university, the 18-year-old Seminoles player is in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at a local hospital. “The Pritchard family is thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals, and asks that their privacy be respected at this time,” the school said.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. near the Havana Heights Apartments off South Main Street. Authorities say Pritchard was found inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound before officers pulled him out and paramedics rushed him to the hospital.
Details about what led up to the shooting remain unclear, and investigators have not released information about any potential suspects.
Fans and fellow players have flooded Pritchard’s Instagram and the university’s official statement with prayers and messages of support. “Nole Nation and the world is praying for you bro! God is looking over you,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Prayers up from the Miami fanbase! Some things are larger than football.”
