Prince Harry is reportedly heartbroken that he must leave Meghan Markle and their two children behind when he travels to London for a series of charity appearances and an event marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.
The Duke of Sussex had reportedly hoped Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would join him in the British capital, but ongoing security fears have forced him to make the first part of the trip alone.
However, the entire Sussex family could still make a dramatic appearance in the United Kingdom later in the week, fueling growing speculation that Harry may finally reunite with his father, King Charles.
Meghan is reportedly far less enthusiastic about the possible royal encounter and is said to be “expecting the worst.” Still, sources claim she is willing to make the trip because she knows how much it means to her husband.
Harry Heartbroken as He Heads to London Alone
Harry is expected to arrive in London on Monday for several scheduled engagements, but Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will remain behind.
The decision reportedly came after Harry’s request for additional security protection for himself and his family was rejected, despite sources claiming there are “real and credible threats” against the Sussexes, including possible terrorism-related dangers.
The setback has reportedly devastated Harry, who is said to be heartbroken that his wife and children cannot safely accompany him to London.
Harry lost his automatic taxpayer-funded police protection after he and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and moved abroad.
The decision sparked a bitter and lengthy legal battle as the duke fought to have his security arrangements reinstated.
According to the Daily Mail, the ongoing fight reportedly left Harry “in tears.” However, when it comes to protecting Meghan and their children, the duke is said to be unwilling to take any risks.
It remains unclear whether Harry will accept Buckingham Palace’s reported offer to stay at an unnamed royal residence while he is in London.
Harry and Meghan had reportedly planned to attend several charity engagements together in the United Kingdom, including a visit to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Harry is now expected to attend the London events by himself.
Meghan and the Children Could Join Harry Later
Although London is reportedly off the schedule for Meghan and the children, sources have not ruled out the possibility that they will join Harry for appearances outside the capital later in the week.
Meghan, Archie and Lilibet are reportedly expected to attend an Invictus Games promotional event in Birmingham on Friday, along with other possible engagements elsewhere in the country.
Their potential arrival has also sparked speculation that the family could visit Althorp House, the childhood home and final resting place of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
The historic estate is located approximately one hour from Birmingham, where the Invictus event is scheduled to take place.
According to Fox News, Althorp’s website reportedly shows that the estate will be closed to the public on July 10 and July 11. The closure has fueled rumors that Harry and Meghan may be planning a private visit so Archie and Lilibet can see where their grandmother was raised and buried.
Harry Reportedly Wants His Children to See Their Royal Heritage
Despite his concerns about bringing his family back to Britain, Harry is reportedly determined to make the trip meaningful for his children.
Sources claim he particularly wants Archie and Lilibet to understand their connection to the United Kingdom and learn more about Diana.
“Harry longs to bring his children to the UK, to show them where he comes from and to introduce them to their heritage,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “And he wants to take them to Althorp, which is where Diana was raised and where she rests.”
The source added that Harry believes the British side of his children’s background should remain an important part of their lives.
“It’s important to him that the English side of their heritage is part of their life,” the insider said. “But their security is everything. There are real and credible threats, and he will not put his family in danger.”
Meghan Reportedly Fears They Are Walking Into a Trap
Meghan is said to have serious reservations about returning to Britain, especially amid reports that a private meeting with King Charles could be arranged.
According to Sky News Australia, the duchess is reportedly “terrified” about the trip and remains deeply suspicious of palace courtiers.
“She doesn’t trust the palace one bit,” a source told the Daily Examiner. “In her mind, they’ve spent years spreading poisonous rumours about her, so she’s finding it very hard to believe anyone’s suddenly had a change of heart.”
The insider claimed Meghan is only considering the trip because she wants to support Harry.
“She knows how much this trip means to Harry,” the source said.
However, the former Suits actress has reportedly admitted that she fears the family could be “walking into a trap.”
Palace Reportedly Sets Strict Rules for King Charles Meeting
Any possible reunion with King Charles would reportedly come with a strict set of palace conditions.
Royal commentator Alison Boshoff claimed Harry and Meghan have been given several rules they must follow if the meeting is to take place peacefully.
Boshoff, citing a source said to be close to the Sussex camp, claimed the reunion would remain completely private.
There would reportedly be “no cameras, no subsequent Instagram posts, no revelations in interviews afterwards.”
The source also claimed Charles is eager to see Archie and Lilibet.
“Charles has let him know that he is really looking forward to seeing his grandchildren,” the insider said. “Harry is looking forward to the visit and to building bridges. That is what everyone wants.”
The palace has also reportedly demanded that Harry and Meghan avoid any commercial activity during the trip.
Unlike some of the couple’s previous international appearances, which critics have described as “quasi-royal” tours, Buckingham Palace has allegedly made it clear that there will be no business promotions or money-making ventures connected to the visit.
