A woman once considered a possible future queen of Britain has died at the age of 75 after a brief illness.
Davina Morley, who dated King Charles III when he was still the Prince of Wales, passed away earlier this month with her three sons by her side.
Morley came from a prominent family. Her grandfather was Scottish industrialist Lord Harry McGowan.
She began dating Charles in 1976, when the future king was still a bachelor and under intense pressure to find a suitable wife.
At the time, Charles was reportedly smitten with Morley, and she was said to have won the approval of the royal family.
For a period, she was even viewed as a possible contender to become the next British queen.
But the relationship eventually fell apart after an ex-boyfriend revealed that he and Morley had previously lived together.
At the time, that kind of personal history was considered a serious obstacle for someone being considered as a potential royal bride.
Morley was reportedly heartbroken when the relationship ended.
She later found lasting happiness with Jake Morley, whom friends and royal correspondents have described as the “love of her life.”
The couple married in 1981 — the same year Charles married Lady Diana Spencer.
Davina and Jake went on to have three sons, Thomas, Dominic and Sebastian.
All three were reportedly at their mother’s bedside when she died.
Jake Morley died in 2022 at the age of 80.
Davina’s death closes another chapter in the personal history surrounding King Charles’ years before he became king, when several women were closely watched as possible future royal brides.
