Cindy Crawford’s son Presley Gerber has died at just 27 years old while staying at a rehabilitation facility in California.
Gerber died Sunday, Sept. 20, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. His cause of death has not been released, and reports Monday said an autopsy had not yet been completed.
A representative for Crawford, husband Rande Gerber and daughter Kaia Gerber confirmed the devastating news.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” the family representative said.
Presley was the older of Crawford and Rande Gerber’s two children and followed his famous mother into the modeling world while still a teenager.
Born in California in 1999, he made his runway debut at Moschino’s Resort 2017 show in Los Angeles when he was just 16.
He later modeled for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Celine.
Gerber also appeared alongside his mother in Pepsi’s 2018 Super Bowl commercial, which revisited Crawford’s famous 1992 Pepsi advertisement.
In recent years, however, Presley had become increasingly candid about struggles in his personal life, including addiction and mental health.
During a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he said mental health had become a major part of his life and explained that he hoped speaking publicly about his experiences could help others dealing with their own struggles.
He later launched a social-media series called “Mental Health Mondays,” aimed at encouraging more open conversations about mental health.
Gerber also worked with charitable organizations, including A Sense of Home, a Los Angeles nonprofit that helps young people transitioning out of foster care.
His struggles became even more public over the past year.
In a since-deleted Instagram video posted in December 2025, Gerber discussed taking prescription medications while dealing with panic attacks and said he had endured several painful losses.
“Unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of loss in many different forms recently,” he said at the time, explaining that those experiences had contributed to where he was emotionally.
Crawford responded publicly to her son’s post with a message of support, writing that the family loved him and that he was not alone.
Gerber also shared details about undergoing treatment for addiction. In one Instagram post earlier this year, he discussed receiving ibogaine treatment, a psychedelic-based therapy that is not approved for medical use in the United States, while expressing hope that it would mark the last time he needed treatment.
Just weeks before his death, sister Kaia Gerber opened up about the impact her brother’s addiction struggles had on their family in Vogue’s September 2026 cover story.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” Kaia said, explaining that she often viewed herself as the child who should not need help because her brother was already going through so much.
She also praised Presley for being unusually willing to show the public a more vulnerable side of himself.
“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,’” she told Vogue.
Crawford had posted a loving tribute to Presley for his 27th birthday in July, telling her son she was proud of the man he had become while adding that she would always remember him as her little boy.
Following news of his death, tributes began appearing from friends and others who had worked with him.
Fashion photographer Collier Schorr remembered Presley as a protective older brother who was exceptionally close to Kaia, recalling how he accompanied his sister to an early Teen Vogue shoot.
Paris Hilton also reacted on Instagram Stories, saying she was “completely heartbroken” and remembering Gerber as a sweet, sensitive and genuine person.
Gerber’s death remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
As of Monday morning, authorities had not announced a cause or manner of death, and there is currently no official finding linking his death to drugs, medication or any particular medical condition.
