Music legend Wayne Osmond, a cherished member of the iconic family band The Osmonds, has passed away at the age of 73. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a heartfelt statement shared on New Year’s Day.

“Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children,” the family shared. “His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world.”

The statement continued with a touching message reflecting Wayne’s spirit: “He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly.”

Wayne was part of the world-famous Osmond family, which included siblings Donny, Marie, and Merrill, among others. The group rose to fame in the 1960s, transitioning from a barbershop quartet to teen idols and later producing their own TV show, The Osmond Family Show.

The family’s breakthrough came after a performance at Disneyland caught the attention of producers, leading to regular appearances on The Andy Williams Show.

Wayne’s life was not without challenges. In 1997, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that led to hearing loss and made performing difficult. Despite this, Wayne returned to the stage just six months after treatment, demonstrating his determination and love for music.

Reflecting on his health struggles, Wayne once shared, “One day when I was working in Branson, I noticed I couldn’t play my saxophone anymore because my head would start throbbing. And my knees would fall out from under me when I was on stage. This all began happening within a week.”

In 2012, a stroke further impacted his ability to perform, yet Wayne’s spirit remained unshaken.

Wayne’s brother Merrill revealed more details about his passing, sharing on Facebook that Wayne suffered a massive stroke. “When I learned that my dear brother Wayne had a massive stroke, my immediate response was to fall to my knees and pray… My brother was a saint before he came into this world, and he will leave as an even greater saint.”

Brother Jay also expressed his grief, writing, “My heart is deeply saddened for the loss of my brother Wayne. It is said that where there is great love, there is great grief as we part during our earthly journey.”
