The Trump Administration has hit back at Selena Gomez after the singer posted, and then quickly deleted, a tearful video in which she apologized for the mass deportations of undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

In response, the White House released a video featuring mothers whose children were killed by undocumented individuals, with the caption: “Their courageous mothers had something to say to @SelenaGomez and those who oppose securing our borders.”

The video includes statements from women whose children tragically lost their lives at the hands of undocumented immigrants, questioning Gomez’s sincerity and suggesting she lacks empathy for the victims. It also implies that her emotional reaction to the deportations may have been insincere.

Earlier this month, Gomez, who is of Mexican-American descent, posted a heartfelt video saying, “All my people are getting attacked … the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” After receiving backlash from Trump supporters, she quickly deleted the post.

On Instagram, Gomez later wrote, “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people.”

On Friday, the White House shared its video response, featuring the mothers of three individuals killed by undocumented immigrants. The video highlights the grief of Alexis Nungaray, whose daughter was murdered by two undocumented men from Venezuela in June 2024; Tammy Nobles, whose daughter was killed by a member of the MS-13 gang in 2022; and Rachel Morin, who was brutally murdered by Victor Martinez Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador.

“Seeing that video, it’s hard to believe that it’s actually genuine and real because she’s an actress,” says Alexis Nungaray in the video. “My daughter was a child. There are many other children whose lives were taken by people who crossed here illegally.”

Tammy Nobles adds, “You don’t know who you’re crying for. What about our children who were brutally murdered and raped and beaten to death and left on the floor by these illegal immigrants?”

Gomez, in her original video, was speaking about the suffering of children and innocent individuals who are being deported, despite the Trump administration’s insistence that the deportations target criminals. (It’s important to note that while crossing the border illegally is considered a civil offense, being undocumented in itself is not classified as a crime.)

  1. I agree with what our current President Donald Trumpis doing to make our country safe again. However, if immigrants are here waiting for their papers and have been here and are doing the right thing then we need to allow them to stay. We need to discern between the GOOD and the BAD!!!!

  2. ANYONE THAT CROSSES OUR BORDERS ILLEGALLY HAS COMMITTED AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL CRIME! It doesn’t matter that they are behaving themselves they crossed illegally, and That is a Crime. Come in at the Port of Entry, and you will be Safe!!!
