A Las Vegas woman accused of marrying 14 men, is now facing felony charges after authorities say she used marriage as part of a shocking scheme to scam men out of tens of thousands of dollars.
Jiaying Chen, 33, was arrested on June 4 at a Las Vegas restaurant after detectives said her name was tied to multiple alleged marriage fraud schemes, according to an arrest report obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Clark County prosecutors said Chen has been married five times this year alone. Since 2019, officials said she has obtained 14 marriage certificates under her name and an alleged alias, Vicky Liang.
Chen had already been facing previous bigamy and theft charges from August 2024, but Las Vegas court records show she did not appear for her initial court hearing.
Now, investigators say more alleged victims have come forward.
One man told police that Chen asked him for $40,000, claiming she needed the money to help a sick family member in China, according to charging documents.
Another man said Chen asked him for $23,000. After he sent the money, he claimed Chen told him “she didn’t want to be married anymore to him,” according to the documents.
A third man told detectives that he had only known Chen for about six months before they got married. He said he gave her $20,000 to help her half-sister. According to police records, that man confirmed he and Chen are still legally married.
Authorities also said a woman claimed she was victimized in a separate check-cashing scheme. She alleged Chen scammed her out of $40,000 after writing bad checks from a man’s account.
In June, police and Homeland Security investigators began watching Chen after receiving a tip that she was planning to meet a man at a restaurant to discuss getting married.
Detectives arrested her at the restaurant and said she was carrying what appeared to be a fraudulent passport and a fake Nevada driver’s license.
Chen is now being held on $100,000 bail at the Clark County jail.
She has been charged with five felony counts of bigamy and two counts of intent to utter a fictitious bill, note or check.
She is due back in Las Vegas Justice Court on June 29.
