Bindi Irwin was forced to miss one of the most meaningful nights of the year for her family after a sudden health scare landed her in the hospital.
The 26-year-old daughter of the late wildlife icon Steve Irwin had traveled to Las Vegas to attend her father’s annual fundraising gala, but was rushed into emergency surgery after her appendix ruptured. Her younger brother, Robert Irwin, broke the news during the event, revealing that their mother, Terri, was also absent from the gala because she remained by Bindi’s side in the hospital.
“She’s going to be OK,” Robert told People. “But surgery—out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them.”
According to Robert, Bindi had initially planned to push through the pain. “She came to Las Vegas and was ready to put on a brave face. She said, ‘I’m just going to tough it out.’ But the surgeon told her, ‘Your appendix is going. It’s got to come out.’”
The gala is a key fundraiser for the Irwin family’s conservation non-profit, Wildlife Warriors, and typically brings the entire family together to honor Steve Irwin’s legacy.
Bindi’s hospitalization is especially poignant given her ongoing health journey. In 2023, she went public with her endometriosis diagnosis, sharing her difficult battle with the disease to raise awareness about women’s health. Following her openness and advocacy, she became the first international recipient of the EndoFound Blossom Award in May 2024.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, Robert said Bindi is expected to make a full recovery.

Wishing continued good health & a speedy recovery for Bindi !
