MotoGP fans got one of the wildest moments of the weekend in Austin when Jorge Martin pulled off a huge sprint race win — and then somehow crashed while celebrating it.

The reigning 2024 world champion stormed to victory in Saturday’s sprint at the United States Grand Prix, giving Aprilia its first sprint win with Martin and pushing himself to the top of the championship standings by a single point. He beat Francesco Bagnaia by 0.755 seconds after a dramatic late move, while Marco Bezzecchi crashed out and Pedro Acosta was later penalized, which bumped Enea Bastianini onto the podium.

Martin had started seventh on the grid, but chaos broke out early when Marc Marquez tangled with pole-sitter Fabio Di Giannantonio on the opening lap, blowing the race wide open. From there, Martin charged through the field, stayed in the fight, and then made his move when it mattered most.

But the real jaw-dropper came after the checkered flag.

As Martin headed back down the main straight for the ride into parc fermé, he kicked into celebration mode and pulled a wheelie. It should have been a victory lap moment. Instead, the Aprilia rider suddenly lost control, dumped the bike, and slid down the straight in one of the strangest post-race crashes you’ll ever see.

The good news for Martin was that he was not hurt, and the bike was not badly damaged. He got back up, climbed on, and made it back to the pits with a grin — even if the celebration had turned into instant meme material.

Martin was able to laugh at himself afterward, joking that while plenty of riders can win races, not many can say they crashed doing a wheelie on the way back to the pits. That pretty much summed up the moment: part brilliant, part chaotic, and completely unforgettable.

In other words, Jorge Martin didn’t just win the sprint in Texas. He gave MotoGP fans a celebration wipeout they’ll be talking about long after Austin.
