A frightening moment unfolded for rock legend Lindsey Buckingham after he was reportedly attacked in broad daylight in California.
The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist, 76, was allegedly targeted by a woman outside an appointment in Santa Monica on Wednesday, according to law enforcement sources.
Authorities say the woman — described as a suspected stalker — threw an unknown substance at Buckingham as he arrived at the building.
The suspect then fled the scene.
Police were reportedly able to identify the woman, but no arrest had been made as of Wednesday. Investigators believe she may have known where Buckingham would be, suggesting the encounter may not have been random.
Officials also said Buckingham was familiar with the woman from prior incidents.
Despite the alarming situation, the music icon was not believed to be injured.
Both the Santa Monica Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department are now investigating the incident. Representatives for Buckingham have not publicly commented.
The shocking encounter comes decades after Buckingham rose to fame as a key member of Fleetwood Mac, one of the most iconic bands in music history.
He first teamed up with Stevie Nicks in the late 1960s, but the pair didn’t achieve major success until joining Fleetwood Mac in 1974 alongside Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie.
The band quickly skyrocketed to global fame, with their self-titled album hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
But it was their 1977 album Rumours that cemented their legacy. The record became one of the best-selling albums of all time and won Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards, featuring hits like Dreams and The Chain.
Behind the scenes, however, the band was dealing with intense personal drama — including the breakup between Buckingham and Nicks, who continued working together despite their split.
Buckingham remained with Fleetwood Mac for decades before parting ways with the group in 2018.
Last year, he and Nicks sparked reunion buzz after teasing a project on social media, though it ultimately turned out to be a re-release of their early 1973 album Buckingham Nicks.
