A disturbing attack in Texas has left a community outraged after a vulnerable man was brutally beaten by a group of young teens — and it was all caught on video.
Darrell Norman Williams says he was riding his bike on Easter Sunday night in Wharton when a group of boys suddenly approached him and started throwing rocks, bottles, and other objects.
“The dudes were just chucking bottles at me and rocks and stuff,” Williams said.
Things quickly escalated.
Williams, who is mentally disabled, told reporters the group knocked him to the ground — and that’s when the situation turned violent. Video of the attack shows the teens kicking and punching him as he tried to shield himself from the blows.
“They kicked him all in his head and all in his gut,” said Diondre Brown, who has cared for Williams for nearly 15 years. “They treated him like a piece of trash.”
The attackers didn’t stop there.
According to Brown, the group ripped apart Williams’ clothing, stole his shoes, and took his bike before fleeing.
Even more shocking, one of the teens recorded the entire assault.
Police say they received the video four days later, which helped them identify all six suspects — who are reportedly between 12 and 14 years old.
Four of the teens are now being held in juvenile detention, while the other two have been released to their parents. Authorities say the group is facing serious charges, including aggravated robbery and engaging in organized criminal activity.
Williams says he had no interaction with the boys before the attack.
“I do nothing to them. I said nothing to them,” he said.
For those who know him, the incident is heartbreaking.
“I feel so sorry,” Brown said. “I wish I had been there to protect him.”
