Comedian and YouTube star Laura Clery says she nearly died in a terrifying freak accident after a 600-pound refrigerator fell on her and pinned her against a counter while she was home alone with her children.
The 39-year-old shared the frightening story in an Instagram post on Thursday, calling it the “most terrifying night of my life as a single mom.”
“I was home alone getting ready for bed when my 600 pound fridge slammed into me and pinned me against the counter,” Clery wrote.
The comedian said she could not move and could not breathe as she tried to free herself. Her two young children, 7-year-old Alfie and 5-year-old Poppy, were home at the time.
“I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive,” she said.
Clery said she somehow managed to call 911 using the phone in her pocket. First responders arrived and had to work together to get the refrigerator off her.
“It took three firefighters to lift it off me,” she wrote. “I’m still shaking.”
Clery also posted video of herself being taken into an ambulance, where she asked first responders if they thought she had broken anything.
“That’s why we are going to take you to a trauma center,” one firefighter replied.
Clearly in pain, Clery moaned and said, “F—, it hurts.”
In a separate Patreon post, Clery shared more details and photos from the ambulance and hospital. She said the pain was so intense that it “almost didn’t feel real.”
She also said hearing her daughter Penelope cry made the whole situation even more terrifying, while her son Alfie ran outside, likely frightened by what was happening.
Despite the horror of the accident, Clery still managed to make a dark joke about the bizarre situation.
While trapped under the fridge, she said she thought to herself, “this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”
Clery is now back home and recovering from the accident.
Fans quickly filled her comment section with support after she shared what happened.
“Sending you so much love. This is terrifying and absolutely a single mums worst fear,” one fan wrote. “I’m so sorry Laura and so glad you’re all okay.”
Another added, “I’m really glad you are ok and that help got to you fast.”
But not everyone was sympathetic. Some followers criticized Clery for recording part of the frightening ordeal.
“Why were you recording in the middle of getting put into an ambulance?” one person asked.
“The firefighters are clearly annoyed. Nobody records after something like that,” another commenter wrote.
Clery has been raising her children as a single mother since splitting from her ex-husband, British record producer Stephen Hilton, in early 2023 after 10 years of marriage.
The comedian has previously said Hilton’s relapse into substance addiction played a major role in their breakup.
In a May 2025 Instagram post, Clery reflected on wanting a calmer life after years of chaos.
“I want out of the chaos and the toxicity,” she wrote at the time. “I have no desire to engage in drama.”
Now, after surviving a nightmare accident inside her own home, Clery’s fans are just relieved she is still here to tell the story.
