Actor Nick Swardson is warning fans not to ignore serious stomach pain after what he thought might be a minor issue turned into a medical emergency.
The comedian and actor shared an update from a hospital bed on Wednesday morning, telling followers that he needed emergency surgery to have his appendix removed.
Swardson said he had been dealing with sharp abdominal pain but initially brushed it off as something less serious, joking that he thought it might be a “super fart” or food poisoning.
Instead, doctors discovered the problem was his appendix.
The good news is that Swardson said he was lucky his appendix had not burst before he got medical help.
In the video, the comic urged fans to take severe stomach pain seriously and not assume it is just gas or something they ate. Appendicitis can become dangerous quickly if the appendix ruptures.
Swardson said he had been working on a movie before he ended up in the hospital, and he is looking forward to sharing more about the project once he gets through his medical scare.
Even from his hospital bed, Swardson still managed to keep his sense of humor. The clip ended with him cracking a joke about his longtime friend David Spade, proving that surgery or not, he is still very much himself.
Fans quickly flooded him with get-well messages as he prepared for the procedure.
For now, Swardson’s message is simple
