Zaire Wade, the son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade, was arrested over the weekend in California after police responded to a disturbing 911 call, according to reports.
The 24-year-old was arrested Sunday, June 21, in Burbank on suspicion of felony domestic violence, NBC4 reported, citing police and arrest records.
According to the outlet, officers were called to a home early that morning after a report of a woman allegedly screaming. When police arrived, they found Zaire and the woman at the residence.
The woman reportedly had lacerations on her face and body, NBC4 reported. Paramedics treated her at the scene, but she did not go to the hospital.
Police arrested Zaire on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment, according to the report.
A handgun was also recovered from the home, and an emergency protective order was put in place, the outlet reported.
Zaire was released shortly before noon on $50,000 bond. The case is now expected to be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
Zaire, a former basketball player, is the eldest child of Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches. He played high school basketball at Sierra Canyon School, the well-known California powerhouse that has produced several major college and pro athletes, including Bronny James, Marvin Bagley and Juju Watkins.
Instead of going to college, Zaire pursued basketball through the G League before continuing his career overseas.
His famous father, 44-year-old Dwyane Wade, has spoken proudly about Zaire over the years and credited his family with helping him through a private health battle. In a 2025 video that aired on Today With Jenna & Friends, Dwyane opened up about how emotional it was for his children to see him vulnerable after he underwent surgery for kidney cancer in 2023.
“My son Zaire said to me, he was watching me walk to the bathroom, he was [saying] I’m Superman,” Dwyane said at the time. “He never saw me that way before.”
Zaire has also publicly supported his younger sister Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020. In a heartfelt Instagram post at the time, he wrote, “I’ve told you that I would lay my life down to make sure you are ten toes down and happy on this earth.”
Dwyane shares Zaire and Zaya with Funches. He and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, welcomed daughter Kaavia in 2018. He is also the father of son Xavier, whom he shares with Aja Metoyer, and was previously the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris.
