Danny Glover has revealed he is battling Alzheimer’s disease.
The 79-year-old actor shared the health update during a pre-taped “Today” show interview with Lester Holt that aired Wednesday morning.
Glover, best known to millions of fans for his role in “Lethal Weapon,” said he received the diagnosis not long after being honored with an honorary Oscar in 2022.
“I could live with it, in a sense,” Glover said while discussing the disease.
Still, the actor admitted he knows the road ahead may become more difficult.
“I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing,” he said.
Glover also praised his loved ones, saying his family has “got my back” as he faces the diagnosis.
His daughter, Mandisa, also appeared in the interview and said it was important for her father to be able to speak openly about what he is going through.
She said it matters that Glover has “control of his own narrative, of his own life story.”
“And the time is now,” she said. “What better time but now for him to speak for himself?”
Mandisa added that people sometimes ask questions about her father’s health, and she does not want to pretend everything is fine when the family is facing something so serious.
During the interview, Glover also reflected on his long Hollywood career, naming “Places in the Heart” with Sally Field as his favorite project.
The actor, who has also starred in “The Color Purple” and countless other films, said he hopes his legacy includes teaching young people about responsibility and justice.
“Justice is our collective responsibility,” Glover said.
He added that one lesson he learned from his parents was that people have the ability to change and become “the architect” of their own change.
This is not the first time Glover has spoken openly about a serious health battle.
He previously revealed he struggled with epilepsy after suffering his first seizure at age 15. He treated the condition with medication for years and eventually learned to recognize the signs before a seizure came on.
Glover once recalled feeling symptoms backstage during a play and repeatedly telling himself, “I will not have this seizure.”
He said the symptoms eventually faded enough for him to go onstage.
The actor has said he has not had a seizure since he was 35.

Sad for him, but shouldn’t be a big problem. Just go to Cuba or Venezuela and utilize the excellent free healthcare system they have. Chavez and Castro where his buddies, so I’m sure they’ll hook him up. A-hole.
