Phil Mickelson’s wife, Amy Mickelson, is continuing to support him as the golfer faces renewed scrutiny over allegations of misconduct.
A spokeswoman for Mickelson responded Monday, June 29, after Ashley Perez spoke out in an article published by the golf website Skratch, detailing an alleged encounter with the 56-year-old golfer.
In a statement, Mickelson’s spokeswoman said some of the allegations being circulated are false, while others involve mistakes the golfer has already acknowledged either publicly or privately.
“Some of the allegations circulating about Mr. Mickelson are false, and others revisit mistakes he has already acknowledged, publicly or privately,” the spokeswoman said.
She continued, “Stacking the disputed claims next to the ones he has owned does not make them credible. It instead contributes to a false and misleading narrative.”
The statement also pushed back on the idea that any article, book or outside account could fully capture Mickelson’s life or marriage.
“No person, no article, and no book can present an accurate, complete, or personal story of the life Mr. Mickelson and his family have lived,” the spokeswoman said. “His story, struggles, and recovery belong to him and to the people who have shared it closely alongside him.”
The statement then turned to Mickelson’s wife, Amy, who has been married to the golf star since Nov. 16, 1996. The couple shares three children: Evan, Sophia and Amanda.
“Recovery is not a straight line,” the statement said. “Throughout their 35-year relationship, his wife, Amy Mickelson, has supported Mr. Mickelson and their family with extraordinary grace, unwavering love, and the belief that people are measured not only by their failures, but by what they do to make them right.”
The spokeswoman said Mickelson’s current priority is his family.
“Mr. Mickelson’s priority is to become the husband, father, and man his family deserves,” the statement continued. “Right now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter. He understands that parts of his life are public, but his family’s private matters are not.”
The response came after Perez alleged to Skratch that Mickelson showed her an explicit full-body photo of himself and asked her to “come see me” later.
Perez told the outlet she decided to speak out because she believes women are often discouraged from coming forward.
“There is a culture of silence that keeps women from coming forward,” Perez said in the Skratch article.
“I want to give other women the courage to share their truth,” she added. “With Phil, I feel like the pattern has been there for many years but people have been afraid to go public because it’s Phil Mickelson.”
Perez’s claims come after Mickelson previously made headlines over another alleged incident reported by Golf Digest. In that report, Mickelson was accused of making “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with a female employee at a club this past spring.
According to Golf Digest, the woman rejected Mickelson’s alleged advance and immediately reported it to supervisors. The outlet reported that club officials “took the allegation seriously and moved quickly.”
After that report, a spokesperson for Mickelson told Golf Digest that “any misunderstanding has been cleared up.”
Mickelson’s attorney later told the Associated Press that the golfer had resigned from the club.
Now, with the latest allegations bringing fresh attention to his personal life, Mickelson’s team is pushing back against what it calls a “false and misleading narrative,” while emphasizing that Amy Mickelson remains by his side after nearly three decades of marriage.
