Cody Simpson has been hit with a brutal double health setback while preparing for his next album — and now the singer says he can’t “walk or talk.”
The 29-year-old Australian pop star opened up about his rough stretch in a Monday Instagram post, joking, “The universe is serving it to me this year!”
Simpson revealed he has been dealing with a damaged vocal cord for nearly three months after suffering a vocal cord hemorrhage while singing through a sinus infection.
“I’ve been on and off vocal rest for close to 3 months trying to heal a damaged vocal cord,” he told fans.
But just as he was trying to recover, things got even worse.
Simpson said he dislocated his knee while rehearsing for a new music video, adding another painful injury to an already difficult year. The knee injury has also forced him to delay surgery on his vocal cords.
That means fans hoping to hear new music or see him back on stage will have to wait.
For now, Simpson said there will be “no singing or dancing for months to come.”
Still, the singer appears to be taking the setback in stride, saying the forced break may be exactly what his body needed.
“I’ve been pushing my body and mind for years now non-stop and I’m taking time to reflect and understand this for what it is: forced rest,” Simpson wrote.
The health scare means his album plans and upcoming live performances will be put on hold while he focuses on healing.
But in true showbiz fashion, Simpson still managed to power through one major project before stepping back.
“FYI, we still shot the music video,” he teased, promising fans he plans to come back stronger than ever.
