An Amazon facility worker in Illinois was shot and killed Sunday night after an argument with a food delivery driver turned into a deadly confrontation, officials said.
Police were called to the Amazon facility at 7001 Vollmer Road in Matteson around 10:54 p.m. after reports of shots fired in the parking lot.
When officers arrived, they found an Amazon employee suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to Olympia Fields Hospital, commonly known as St. James Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Dylan Perkins.
According to police, witnesses and surveillance footage showed that Perkins and the suspect, described as a food delivery driver, got into an argument in the parking lot. The dispute then escalated into a physical altercation.
Police said the delivery driver shot Perkins several times before leaving the scene.
Amazon said in a statement that it was saddened by the killing and is working with police.
“We’re saddened by this senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees and the victim’s family during this difficult time,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “We’re working with the Matteson Police Department in their active investigation.”
Amazon also said Perkins was a third-party vendor.
Matteson police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are now working to identify the suspect. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing.
