The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly parted ways with lead play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey after an explosive social media allegation accused him of having an affair with a player’s sister.

Tobey’s sudden exit comes after posts appeared on his own Instagram account earlier this week, accusing him of cheating on his longtime girlfriend. The posts quickly went viral before being deleted, and Tobey’s accounts have since been made private.

One post, allegedly written by Tobey’s girlfriend of six years, included a photo of the couple during happier times and read: “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her so feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)”

Another post showed a strip of photo booth pictures that appeared to show Tobey kissing another woman at a San Antonio bar.

Tobey’s now ex-girlfriend later indicated on her own Instagram account that she was behind the posts and that the relationship was over.

According to multiple reports, the woman Tobey was accused of having an affair with is the sister of a Spurs player. The Spurs have not publicly commented on the situation.

Tobey had been calling Spurs games since 2024 and had quickly built a strong reputation in the sports media world. He was considered one of the NBA’s young rising play-by-play voices and previously earned a spot on Front Office Sports’ list of rising young broadcasters.

Before joining the Spurs broadcast team, Tobey worked for 9News in Denver and called games for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.

His departure leaves a major opening in San Antonio’s broadcast booth. The job is expected to draw plenty of interest, especially after the Spurs’ recent run to the NBA Finals and the team’s growing young core led by Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs were ultimately beaten 4-1 in the NBA Finals by the New York Knicks, who won their first championship since 1973.

The Daily Mail said it contacted the Spurs and Tobey’s representatives for comment.
