Country singer Keaton Adams is speaking out after a terrifying car crash left him fighting for his life, undergoing multiple surgeries and permanently blind in his right eye.
The 24-year-old singer shared graphic photos and videos from the wreck on Instagram, showing himself covered in blood beside the mangled remains of his car.
“I don’t know where to start,” Adams said in one video.
He said he was told he had been traveling around 80 to 90 mph when his vehicle flipped several times.
Adams also admitted he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash left him with a fractured fibula and severe damage to his right eye.
“I’m blind in my right eye,” he revealed.
Despite the devastating injuries, Adams said he feels incredibly lucky to still be alive.
“With that being said, I’m still breathing, and if I’m still breathing, I’m still singing and doing what I love most,” he said.
Adams admitted he knows just how close he came to dying.
“I really shouldn’t be here,” he said, adding that he did not exactly “walk away” from the wreck but instead “crawled away.”
In another emotional video, Adams revealed that a 21-year-old passerby named Aaron helped pull him from the wrecked vehicle.
According to Adams, Aaron even took two photos of him at the crash scene because he feared they might be the last pictures ever taken of the singer alive.
“The reason he took two pictures is because he thought it was going to be the last time that I’d be seen alive, and he wanted to snap the pictures for my family,” Adams explained.
The singer also shared images of his medical scans, including one showing a large piece of glass lodged in his eye.
Adams said doctors spent about eight hours removing the glass from his retina.
He estimated that he underwent around 20 hours of surgery over just four days.
Fans first learned something was wrong on Aug. 8, when a statement posted to Adams’ Instagram announced that he had been involved in an accident and was receiving medical treatment.
The crash forced him to cancel a scheduled performance that night at Coupland Dance Hall with Giovannie & The Hired Guns.
“Keaton is in good hands, and right now our focus is simply on his health and recovery,” the statement said.
His team also thanked first responders, doctors, friends and fans who had reached out while asking for privacy for Adams and his family.
Another update was posted Aug. 11 confirming that Adams had undergone multiple surgeries and was continuing to receive medical care.
His performances scheduled for Aug. 14 and 15 were also canceled as a precaution.
At the time, his team said the priority remained his recovery and asked fans to continue respecting the family’s privacy.
Now, Adams says he is determined to keep moving forward despite the life-changing injuries.
As long as he is still breathing, he said, he plans to keep singing.
