Six workers were taken to the hospital after a serious accident involving heavy equipment during the teardown of Ed Sheeran’s concert stage in Detroit.
The incident happened late Saturday night at Ford Field after Sheeran finished his one-night stop in the city as part of his Loop tour.
Crews were dismantling the stage when a piece of heavy equipment reportedly lost control and struck several workers inside the stadium, according to Click on Detroit.
Fire department dispatch audio indicated emergency crews were sent to Ford Field around 11 p.m. for what was described as a “forklift injury accident.”
The workers were reportedly near a ramp inside a vehicle tunnel and were walking away to take a break when the equipment suddenly hit them.
One worker who was struck in the chest said the accident happened in a split second and described it as unlike anything he had ever experienced.
He was kept in the hospital overnight before being released Sunday.
All six injured workers were transported to nearby hospitals.
Two were initially listed with serious injuries, while four were in stable condition. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
A Ford Field spokesperson confirmed that six workers were hurt, including one member of the stadium’s own staff.
“Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners,” the stadium said in a statement.
Officials said they would not speculate on what caused the accident while the review is underway.
“We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response,” the statement added.
It was not immediately clear exactly what piece of equipment was involved or why it lost control.
Sheeran had performed at Ford Field earlier that night as part of his Loop tour.
