Professional wrestler and musician Andy Williams, better known to fans as “The Butcher,” has died at age 48 after suffering a medical emergency following a wrestling match in Pennsylvania.
Williams died Saturday, Sept. 5, after competing in a tag-team match at an Enjoy Wrestling event, according to TMZ.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Williams died following an undisclosed medical emergency.
Williams had teamed up with longtime partner Jesse “The Blade” Guilmette to face TME during the event.
At the end of the match, Williams reportedly collapsed.
Medical staff at the venue immediately rushed to help him and began performing CPR while waiting for an ambulance.
“Andy collapsed at the end of his match this evening,” Enjoy Wrestling said in a statement. “Our doctors on staff tended to him immediately, administering CPR until the ambulance arrived.”
The promotion said the rest of the event was canceled and fans were sent home as officials waited for more information from the hospital.
Hours later, Enjoy Wrestling posted a simple tribute: “Butcher Forever.”
Williams’ official cause of death has not yet been publicly released.
He had been a professional wrestler for more than a decade and became best known for his work alongside Guilmette as the tag team The Butcher and The Blade.
The duo signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2019 and remained with the company until June 2026, when their contracts expired and AEW chose not to offer extensions.
Williams continued wrestling during periods when Guilmette was sidelined, including after his partner underwent surgery for two bulging discs in his lower back.
Outside the ring, Williams was also a longtime musician.
He co-founded and played rhythm guitar for the heavy metal band Every Time I Die, which disbanded in 2021. Williams later performed with the band Atomic Rule.
After news first surfaced that Williams had suffered a medical emergency, former Every Time I Die bandmate Jordan Buckley asked fans to pray for him.
“If you’re a prayer please please pray for Andy tonight,” Buckley wrote on X.
Tributes poured in from the wrestling world after Williams’ death was confirmed.
AEW wrestler Josh Alexander remembered him as someone who made a lasting impression on everyone around him.
“Andy Williams was a musician and wrestler. He was one of the best people I ever met,” Alexander wrote.
He added that Williams had “an enormous heart” and could always put a smile on his face.
“Rest in Peace brother,” Alexander wrote.
