R&B singer Keke Wyatt is pushing back hard after reports claimed she was arrested on several serious charges in Georgia — including aggravated assault, terroristic threats and cruelty to children.
Wyatt, whose legal name is Ketara Wyatt Darring, was booked into the Henry County Jail on Sept. 20 and released two days later on $1,050 bond, according to local booking information and national reports.
But just days after news of the arrest spread, the 44-year-old singer’s representatives issued a statement disputing some of the most serious allegations being reported.
According to Wyatt’s team, the court documentation in the case reflects only one charge — simple assault.
“Contrary to information currently being circulated, the Henry County court documentation reflects one charge: simple assault,” her representatives said in a statement posted to her Instagram account.
That directly conflicts with booking information cited by CBS Atlanta, which listed aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and third-degree cruelty to children.
Wyatt’s representatives specifically objected to the child-cruelty allegation, saying it was especially troubling because of how serious such a charge would be.
They said cruelty to children, aggravated assault and terroristic threats were not reflected in the court documentation they referenced.
“We are not offering excuses or asking anyone to prejudge the circumstances surrounding the case,” the statement said. “We are simply asking that facts be reported responsibly.”
Wyatt also shared what appeared to be a court document on Instagram Stories listing a simple assault charge.
At this point, there remains a clear discrepancy between the original booking information and the account provided by Wyatt’s representatives.
CBS Atlanta reported that the Henry County booking entry contained the more serious charges, while Wyatt’s team says the actual court paperwork shows only simple assault.
The circumstances that led to Wyatt’s arrest have not been publicly detailed.
Her representatives also said she intends to continue with her scheduled performances and address the case through the legal system.
Wyatt is well known for her powerful R&B vocals and for appearing on reality television, and she is also the mother of a large family.
The singer has faced legal trouble before.
In 2002, Wyatt was charged in connection with the stabbing of her then-husband Rahmat Morton. That case was later dismissed. Wyatt subsequently said she acted in self-defense and believed her life was in danger at the time.
