New details have emerged about the final hours of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” songwriter and former guest judge Lucian Piane, who was arrested following a bizarre confrontation at a California hotel just hours before he was struck and killed by a car.

Piane, 46, died early Monday morning, October 12, after being hit by a vehicle in Glendale, California. Authorities have ruled his death an accident, but newly reported police records reveal a troubling series of events leading up to the tragedy.

According to TMZ, officers were called to an Embassy Suites hotel around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after employees reported that Piane was behaving erratically and refusing to leave the property.

The Grammy-nominated musician allegedly accused the hotel manager of running a prostitution ring before throwing a water bottle at him.

Police records also reportedly describe Piane smoking inside the lobby, spitting toward employees, and throwing water around the front desk area.

Officers arrived around 6:35 p.m. and arrested him on suspicion of assault approximately 10 minutes later.

Sources familiar with the encounter told TMZ that Piane appeared agitated and was speaking rapidly, although he cooperated with police.

He reportedly told officers he was a Hollywood writer and denied using drugs.

Piane was booked into custody at 7:42 p.m., issued a citation, and released at 11:49 p.m.

Approximately four hours later, tragedy struck.

Around 4:15 a.m. Monday, Piane was walking near San Fernando Road and Harvard Street when he was hit by a sedan.

The driver remained at the scene and contacted emergency services, but Piane was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that he died from blunt trauma and classified his death as accidental.

Glendale police said investigators found no evidence that the driver was impaired, speeding, or violating traffic signals.

The hotel incident was not Piane’s only reported encounter with police that weekend.

On Saturday, October 10, he had been cited for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to appear in court Monday, the same day he died.

The songwriter had previously discussed his struggles with substance use and mental health. In August, he publicly celebrated more than a year of sobriety, making the circumstances surrounding his final days especially heartbreaking for those who followed his career.

Piane was a familiar name to longtime fans of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” having worked as a songwriter, composer, music producer, and occasional guest judge during the show’s early seasons.

He helped create several memorable musical numbers, including “Shade: The Rusical” and “The Baddest Bitches in Herstory,” and collaborated with RuPaul on songs such as “Sissy That Walk,” “Cover Girl,” and “Champion.”

His talents extended beyond reality television. Piane also worked with acclaimed composer Marc Shaiman on major productions, including the 2007 film adaptation of “Hairspray,” which earned him a Grammy nomination.

Following his death, Shaiman shared an emotional tribute, describing Piane’s struggles with mental illness over the past decade while remembering his extraordinary musical abilities.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” production company World of Wonder also mourned the loss, remembering Piane as a gifted musician and beloved friend.

“Lucian left behind a legacy of truly beautiful music,” the company said.

The final hours of Piane’s life have drawn renewed attention to his recent encounters with police, although authorities have not established any connection between his arrests and the fatal collision.
