Reality television star Mackayla Paige, better known to fans as “Kash,” was shot and killed in downtown Oakland, California, early Sunday morning, just hours after sharing videos of herself enjoying a night out with friends.

She was 29.

Paige, who gained a following through appearances on the streaming network Now That’s TV, was found with at least one gunshot wound shortly after 1:30 a.m. on October 11.

According to the Oakland Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of 14th Street, near Harrison Street, where they discovered the wounded reality star.

Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures before rushing her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police confirmed that a woman from Richmond, California, has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Her identity has not been released, and investigators have not announced what charges she may face.

Authorities have also declined to discuss what led to the deadly confrontation or whether the suspect and Paige knew each other.

The sudden killing has devastated friends, relatives and fans who watched Paige build her career in reality television.

Known for her outspoken personality and energetic presence, Paige appeared on several Now That’s TV productions, including Real West Coast Baddies, Young & Reckless and RoomH8z.

The independent streaming platform, founded by entrepreneur Teleau Belton, has developed a following through unscripted programs featuring social media personalities, confrontations and dramatic relationships.

Paige had been working to turn her television appearances into a larger entertainment career while pursuing opportunities in modeling, makeup artistry and business.

Her cousin, Nicky Clayton, told KTVU that Paige had spent time visiting relatives before the shooting and was excited about her future.

Clayton described her as ambitious and determined to make a name for herself, with dreams of becoming a successful reality television personality and opening her own business.

Those plans were cut short in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Just hours before her death, Paige posted Instagram Stories showing herself enjoying Saturday night with friends. The cheerful footage has since taken on a heartbreaking significance for fans mourning her loss.

By Sunday afternoon, loved ones had begun gathering near the shooting location, leaving flowers and creating a makeshift memorial in her honor.

Friends remembered Paige as outgoing, confident and passionate about achieving her goals.

One close friend, known as Poodahh, who has a tattoo dedicated to Paige on his hand, spoke emotionally about her determination to succeed.

“I’m sorry for our loss, because she’s a star,” he told KTVU.

The killing comes as Oakland continues working to reduce violent crime following a significant decline in homicides. The city recorded its lowest annual homicide total in decades in 2025, according to local officials.

Investigators have not established a motive in Paige’s death, and police have not confirmed social media speculation surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.

The Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has photographs or video footage to contact investigators at 510-238-3821 or the department’s tip line at 510-238-7950. Evidence can also be submitted to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.

For Paige’s loved ones, the investigation continues as they struggle to comprehend how a Saturday night out ended in tragedy.
