WNBA star Brittney Griner remains in detention after nearly 100 days, and her wife is making a desperate plea for the Biden administration to take her case more seriously.

Cherelle Griner sat down with Good Morning America for her first interview since her wife was detained by Russian authorities earlier this year; the WNBA star is accused of bringing THC-infused vape cartridges into the country, where they are banned.

In her interview, she called on President Joe Biden to make any concessions necessary to bring Ms Griner home.

Of the president, she said: “He has that power. You know, I’m just like, “Why are we not using it? Like, urgently, use it…We’re expecting him to use his power to get it done.”

She confirmed that she wanted to meet with the president, adding: “I just keep hearing that he has the power, she’s a political pawn, so if they’re holding her because they want you to do something, then I want you to do it.”

Ms Griner was allegedly detained while attempting to leave Russia with a bag of vape cartridges containing a derisive of cannabis oil.

While the cartridges are legal in most parts of the world, they are banned in Russia under “part 2 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (drug smuggling)”, the statement added.

She faces up to 10 years in prison in Russia, and appeared in court earlier this month for a hearing on whether or not her detention will be extended. The US State Department has said the basketball star was “wrongfully detained”.

“The welfare and safety of US citizens abroad is among the highest priorities of the US government,” a State Department official previously told The Independent.

Ms Griner’s agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas told ESPN that she expects the White House to do everything it can to secure the release of the basketball star.

“Brittney has been detained for 75 days and our expectation is that the White House do whatever is necessary to bring her home,” she said in a statement.

  1. Ms. Griner should have familiarized herself with Russian law before she went there. She was either unaware of their laws regarding illegal substances or chose not to obey them. Either way, it is not our president’s job to tell other countries what their laws should be, or how they treat those who violate them, so he should just stay out of it. Illegal mistreatment of visitors to another land comes under United Nations oversight, not U.S. oversight, regardless of what some U.S. citizens might think or demand.

  2. So special privileges for the special folks. When one goes into another nation that you already know has different policies one should be aware that your elitist status here means nothing but insults there.

  3. Nothing said about the citizens in Afghanistan. I can guess that this is a special case being this one is a “super star” and of privileges.

  4. The state department says she was wrongfully detained ? Did she or did she not commit a crime ? She went to Russia to make an insane amount of money to play Womens ( did I use the proper pronoun 💩🤦🏻👎🏻) basketball that absolutely nobody watches and has few fans, but can’t follow the laws and the former Vice President is being bothered to help her. How about we spend time A: using taxpayer $ to provide proper security measures and personnel to protect our kids at school.
B.Secure the DAMN Mexico border and stop allowing the pouring in of illegals into our country that rested not only an economic strain but it’s also allowing a lot of criminals and drugs like FENTANYL = the highest cause of death of Americans between the age of 18-25 right now .
    C. Figure out a way, like PRESIDENT TRUMP did to make the price of insulin go back down to affordable prices or Joe can just reverse what he did to make it go up .
Britney Griner who has publicly on numerous occasion stated her hatred of America and law enforcement went to Russia and knowingly committed a crime she should not be made a priority over law abiding Americans . Maybe her “wife” can just move to Russia and join her since it’s so bad here . DONT COMMIT CRIMES THEN ASK THE COUNTRY YOUVE PUBLICLY HATED FOR HELP.

  5. There are way more discussions of much more importance between Russia and the United States than trying to get Russia to release a criminal who violated their law. Maybe if Biden’s handlers would consent to cutting off aid to Ukraine the Ruskies may consider letting her, him, she, it, or what ever.
