All six hosts of “The View” celebrated the guilty verdict for former president Donald Trump in his high-profile hush money trial during Friday’s episode.
“I felt like the Knicks won the tournament,” host Sunny Hostin said. “I felt like America won. I felt like New York won. I feel like the Manhattan DA’s Office won. I felt like I won.”
The jury delivered the historic verdict Thursday inside a New York courtroom finding Trump guilty on all 34 counts after a high-profile trial for falsifying business records. It is the first time a U.S. president has been convicted of a crime.
Host Joy Behar said she was “so excited” to hear about the verdict. She highlighted how all jurors agreed Trump was guilty on 34 counts, even one who claimed to get most of his news from Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
“Excuse me Donald, it’s not rigged,” Behar said.
Host Whoopi Goldberg criticized Trump when he “played the victim” during his statement following the verdict. She said he brought this on himself by engaging in illegal activities.
“That’s what you get,” Goldberg said.
She also said Trump should have to spend time in jail for his crimes. Trump’s sentencing is on July 11.
“We’re going to treat this man, who used to be president, like everybody else,” Goldberg said. “You’re convicted of felonies. You’ve got to do a little bit of time.”
Host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she was somewhat taken by surprise when Trump was found guilty on all counts.
“It was the outcome I expected but I was still kind of shocked,” Griffin said.
Griffin warned that Trump is still running for president despite the conviction.
“Running for president to stay out of jail is one hell of a motivator,” Griffin said. “He’s going to do and say absolutely anything he can to get elected, so buckle up.”
Host Sara Haines felt a variety of emotions when the former president was convicted.
“I remember feeling like something punched me in my chest,” Haines said. “This isn’t a binary reaction. It’s not because I’m sad or happy. It was so somber and sober to get that news because we’re living in a country where we have a former president convicted who’s also running for office.”
Host Ana Navarro said the news still feels “surreal,” but the verdict was well-deserved.
“This is a man who made my life a living hell for four years and made the life of our country a living hell for six years,” Navarro said. “And so he deserves to be accountable. He’s been Teflon Don his entire life. He has been getting away and cheating and lying and doing criminal acts for all this time.”
