Heartbreaking footage from inside Azerbaijan Airlines flight J28243 captures the harrowing final moments before the Embraer 190 jet crashed in Kazakhstan, claiming 38 lives and leaving 29 survivors.

The video, filmed by passenger Subkhon Rakhimov, reveals a chaotic scene. Oxygen masks dangle from the ceiling as passengers pray or huddle by windows. Over the intercom, a flight attendant’s voice tries to maintain calm. Rakhimov, now recovering with visible injuries, shared his thoughts:

“The flight attendant did her job perfectly. I don’t know if she survived, but she did her job perfectly. Whether it was an oxygen tank explosion or something else, experts will determine. But there was an explosion.”

The flight, en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, faced heavy fog that forced multiple diversions before attempting an emergency landing in Aktau, Kazakhstan. Tragically, the plane crashed two miles short of the runway, bursting into flames upon impact.

Drone footage of the wreckage shows charred debris scattered across the crash site. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and rescue survivors.

Of the 62 passengers and five crew members aboard, most were Azerbaijani nationals, with others hailing from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Survivors were rushed to hospitals, many with severe injuries.

Both pilots are believed to be among the fatalities. Initial reports suggest a possible bird strike may have caused the engine failure, though investigations continue.

Azerbaijan Airlines suspended flights on affected routes pending the investigation. In a heartfelt statement on X, the airline expressed:

“Today is a tragic day for AZAL. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew. Their pain is our pain. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev cut short his state visit to Russia upon hearing the news. The crash highlights the dangers of foggy conditions near Aktau, a city on the Caspian Sea, where such weather is common.

As experts analyze the flight’s final moments and the black box data, the world mourns with the victims’ families and awaits answers to this devastating tragedy.
