Country star Clay Walker has spent nearly three decades battling multiple sclerosis — but that hasn’t stopped him from chasing his passion. Diagnosed at 26, the “Rumor Has It” hitmaker, now 55, has defied the odds, charting more than 30 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs list, including six No. 1 hits. But despite his strength, recent footage has reminded fans just how tough the fight can be.
Just a week after canceling a show in Arkansas due to side effects from MS treatment, Walker took the stage at Rock the South in Cullman, Alabama, on June 19 — and gave it his all. But after the set, the ’90s country legend needed help getting offstage, sparking a wave of emotion online.
A video shared on TikTok showed the Texas Cowboy Hall of Famer being assisted by others as he exited. Fans quickly poured in with messages of support and heartbreak.
“MS is a thief,” one person wrote. “Absolutely breaks my heart,” another added.
Others living with the chronic disease shared their personal battles. “The heat is one of the worst things,” one user explained. “Especially if you’re already in a flare-up. Prayers for Clay Walker.”
The concerning scene came just five days after Walker had to cancel his June 14 concert in Hot Springs, Arkansas. “I really tried my best to pull through for you all,” he told fans in a heartfelt message on social media.
But even in the midst of pain, Walker wasn’t about to let fans down in Alabama.
One of the standout moments of the night was his surprise cover of Prince’s classic “Purple Rain.” Videos of the performance quickly went viral, with fans raving about the emotional delivery.
“He’s battling MS — what a performance,” one person commented. Another added, “I’ve always loved Clay Walker but damn… he knocked this one out of the park.”
