CBS Sports has placed longtime NFL analyst Tony Romo on leave following his arrest in Wisconsin last week on suspicion of driving under the influence.
“Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice,” the network said in a statement.
Romo, 46, was pulled over on July 23 while driving south on Interstate 43 after authorities said he illegally passed other vehicles.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback had reportedly competed in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament earlier that day.
According to Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records, Romo was arrested after allegedly performing poorly during field sobriety tests. He was later cited for refusing to take an intoxication test following his arrest.
Romo was booked and released and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.
The former NFL star retired from professional football in 2016 and joined CBS Sports as an analyst the following year.
In 2020, Romo signed a massive 10-year contract extension reportedly worth $180 million, making him one of the highest-paid sports broadcasters in television.
CBS NFL analyst J.J. Watt, the former Houston Texans defensive end, is expected to replace Romo in the broadcast booth while he remains on leave.
CBS is scheduled to air its first regular-season NFL game on Sept. 13.
A representative for Romo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
