A heart-stopping moment unfolded at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Saturday when a young boy was rescued after being spotted walking along an elevated monorail track — and the dramatic scene was caught on video.
According to park officials, the boy was reported missing just after 5 p.m. on August 30 after becoming separated from his parents. While staff searched for him, the child somehow entered a secured area for the monorail, which was closed and barricaded at the time. The ride was not in operation.
Park officials said the boy stayed at the closed station for about 20 minutes before stepping onto the elevated track. In a video filmed by a guest, the child can be seen pacing back and forth as worried onlookers gasp below.
Then, in a tense and heroic moment, a bystander climbed onto a nearby building, carefully pulled himself onto the monorail track, scooped the boy into his arms, and handed him down to another good Samaritan waiting below.
Park staff quickly responded, and by approximately 5:28 p.m., the boy was safely reunited with his family. Thankfully, he was unharmed.
“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” park officials said in a statement.
The dramatic rescue comes just over a month after a tragic incident at the same theme park, where a 9-year-old girl drowned in the wave pool. That death was ruled accidental, and a police review concluded that Hersheypark had upheld safety standards at the time, with the pool operating well below capacity.
