Patrick Beverley found himself in the headlines this week after being arrested on a third-degree felony assault charge, and now his representatives are speaking out about what they say really happened.

On Friday (November 14), reports revealed that the former Milwaukee Bucks guard was taken into custody in Richmond, Texas. He was charged with Assault on a Family Member/Household Member Impeding Breath or Circulation — a serious offense under Texas law. Beverley’s bond was set at $40,000, and he has since been released from custody.

Later that same day, Beverley’s attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, issued a statement that the NBA veteran reposted on his Instagram Story. The message explained the events that allegedly led to his arrest.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement said. “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.”

The statement went on to say that the details surrounding the incident have been misrepresented: “However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

Beverley added his own short caption alongside the statement: “Yal Pray for the Fam.”

Though he hasn’t officially retired from basketball, Beverley last played professionally in the 2024–2025 season with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC in Israel after his stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. His NBA career included time with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and others after being drafted in the second round in 2009.

The arrest wasn’t the only reason Beverley was in the news this week. He also stirred controversy on his Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast after making comments suggesting Klay Thompson’s performance had declined because of his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion. Thompson fired back, calling the discussion — specifically comments about Megan’s body — “disgusting and disturbing.
