Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans took a chaotic turn early Tuesday morning when actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested following an alleged altercation outside a Royal Street business.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the 39-year-old was removed from the establishment after reportedly causing a disturbance. But the situation didn’t end there.
Police say that once outside, LaBeouf allegedly struck one individual multiple times with closed fists. In a statement, authorities said the victim reported that LaBeouf initially left the scene — only to return moments later acting “even more aggressive.”
Witnesses reportedly tried to restrain the actor and allowed him to leave, but police say he then hit the same person again in the upper body. Authorities also allege that LaBeouf punched a second individual in the nose during the incident.
He was held down by bystanders until officers arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to a local hospital to be treated for what police described as unknown injuries. After being released, he was arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery, according to police and court records.
Officials have not disclosed what led to the confrontation, and it remains unclear what sparked the initial disturbance.
As of now, LaBeouf’s attorney and representatives have not publicly commented on the arrest.
