A routine practice turned into a heartbreaking tragedy after a teenage tennis player suddenly collapsed on the court, leaving a community in shock.
Luigi Santarelli, 15, a rising athlete from Francavilla al Mare, Italy, suffered cardiac arrest on April 8 while training at a sports complex in San Giovanni Teatino. Just moments before, witnesses say he was laughing and talking with his coach—then, without warning, he collapsed.
People nearby rushed to save him, performing CPR and using a defibrillator as they waited for emergency crews. First responders arrived quickly and continued life-saving efforts while rushing him to a hospital in the nearby city of Pescara.
Despite desperate attempts by doctors, Luigi never regained consciousness and was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy has already been conducted, but officials say it did not reveal a clear cause of death. Additional testing, including genetic analysis, is now expected to try to determine what caused the sudden cardiac event in what was believed to be a healthy teen.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident, though early reports indicate Luigi had up-to-date medical clearances with no known health concerns.
Those who knew him say the loss is devastating.
A coach remembered him as an incredibly talented player, nicknamed “The Painter” for his skill and creativity on the court. Friends and teammates described him as dedicated and passionate, practicing almost every day.
His funeral is set to take place in Pescara, as local leaders and community members rally around his grieving family. Plans are also underway to honor his memory through tennis events in the area.

What a horrible tragedy for his family. Send the funeral bill to “Dr.” Anthony Fauci for his insistence on mandating the C-jab that’s caused untold THOUSANDS of fatal cardiac events in young men.
